Ryan Groth

  Objective

I am an instructor for the South Florida Baseball School because of my close friendship with Coach Bruce.  He has been a very     inspiring and amazing person in my life who has helped me to further my baseball career.  It is to God's credit as well as Bruce that I was able to go from a hopeful walk-on at FAU with zero scholarships out of high school to a professional baseball player.  I am very excited as to what is in store with the South Florida Baseball School and am looking forward to working with ambitious young ball players. My skills specialize in Hitting, Outfielding, and Baserunning.

  Professional Playing Career

I was drafted in the 22nd round in the 2008 draft by the  Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim out of Oral Roberts University as Junior.  I split the 2008 short season after signing with the Adv Rookie Orem Owlz under Tom Kotchman and the Cedar Rapids Kernels under Keith Johnson.  Batted .260 combined with 8 HRs and a Slugging percentage of .550.

I went to Spring Training with the Angels in Tempe, AZ in 2009 and played for the Cedar Rapids Kernels under Bill Mosiello in the first half of the season before getting my release.

I played with the Washington Wild Things and River City Rascals Independent Clubs of the Frontier league.  Hit .255 with 6 HRs in the second half of the season in the Frontier League with both clubs.

College Playing Career

I walked on at FAU in the 2004-2005 where I was issued a Red-Shirt.

I walked on to Indian River Community College in the 2005-2006 season and played for JUCO coach legend Mike Easom in his final season as IRCC's head coach.  I was drafted in the 46th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates as a Draft and Follow.  Named 2nd team All-conference my Freshman year.

In 2006-2007 I played my Sophomore season at IRCC under Bob O'brien on a full scholarship.  Hit .335 with 2 HRs, 8 3Bs, and 26 SBs, named 2nd team All-conference, team MVP.  Signed with Oral Roberts University in the Fall of 2006.

I played my Junior year in 2007-2008 at Oral Roberts University under Team USA coach Rob Walton.  Hit .351 with 9 HRs, 20 2Bs, 4 3Bs, Slugging% of .556.  Named First Team All-Conference.  Went to Regional against Nebraska in 2008.
